Network Version of Sibelius 6
OTHER ADVANTAGES: The Sibelius 6 Network version, which has the Classroom Control feature, needs only the server software to be registered, not all the client computers. This will save your IT personnel a lot of time by not having to register every copy of Sibelius 6. Further, the program can be 'ghosted' onto the classroom machines from the server, another saving in installation time.
DISADVANTAGES: If network access is not available when off campus, a stand-alone version will have to be installed on the teacher's computer but BOTH versions, network (SCEW) and stand-alone, (SCEE) CAN'T be installed on the same computer.
To overcome this, a network computer in the classroom would have to be used by the teacher, but for off-campus work, another computer with a stand-alone version of Sibelius installed would have to be used. If you need advice on this matter, please contact me - JohnO john@musitech.co.nz

It would also be a valuable resource for primary and intermediate schools as well as studio teachers and their senior students.

Important News – The SCEM Stand-alone Sibelius licencing scheme
To date, Sibelius programs have been available as:
SCEP = Professional single
SCEE = Educational single, and Teachers' and Students' specially priced singles
SCEF = Five packs (stand-alone) for educational institutions. (This licence is only available in multiples of five.)
SCEW = Network version for educational institutions. (This licence can be any number, five or more.)
Now there is an optional NEW method of licencing Sibelius programs for educational institutions called SCEM - Multiple stand-alone copies, for five copies or more. Sibelius SCEM Multiple-copy licences can be extended by any number from five programs upwards. For example, a current licence of 15, ie three five-pack programs, could be extended using the new SCEM scheme to say 18 copies. Sometime later the licence could be further extended by a further two, or indeed, any number of programs.
The SCEM licencing can be done when purchasing Sibelius for the first time, or when upgrading and/or extending a current licence.
NB Upgrading = upgrading from one version to a newer version. Extending = extending or upsizing the number of programs in a licence.
The advantage of SCEM licences is the use of one CD-ROM with one serial number. Therefore to extend the licence in the future, all that needs to be done is to quote the SCEM serial number to MusiTech and the number of new programs required. To extend the licence of a current version only, there would be no new package to receive and the licence extension can happen overnight with the Sibelius UK database being updated by MusiTech with the new number of programs for your school. There would be a new package (CD-ROM, Manual etc) if an upgrade to the newest version were to be carried out during the conversion to SCEM.
The disadvantage is that in future the whole licence would have to be upgraded at once, as there is only one serial number, whereas currently five-packs can be upgraded at different times to remain within budget limits. This old method of course would mean that there would be more than one version running in a classroom at one time. (Sibelius Version 4 can Save back to Version 3 or 2.)
The pricing of the SCEM programs is the same as for network licences where the more you have the cheaper the unit price. Examples: To extend from 5 to 7 programs would cost $560, ie a unit price of $280, and to extend from 20 to 27 programs the cost would be $1660, or a unit price of $237. Upgrades to Version 4 can be done at the same time: 6-19 copies $125 each; 20 or more copies $110 each.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOADING THE NEW SCEM LICENCES:
It is recommended that any old version of Sibelius be removed BEFORE the new SCEM licence is installed.
For WINDOWS computers -
- To remove the program/s go to Programs > Sibelius Software folder. Click on Uninstall Sibelius x and remove all versions evident.
- To 'clean up' the registry click on Start > Run and type 'regedit' > OK > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software and DELETE the Sibelius folder
- Continue and do the same in the HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > and DELETE the Sibelius folder.
- Now load the new Sibelius SCEM in the usual way following all the on-screen instructions. Contact JohnO if there are any problems.
For MAC computers -
- Drag the Sibelius program folder into the trash-can. The folder could be on the desktop or more likely in the Applications folder.
- Go to HardDisk > Library > Application Support > Sibelius Software > and DELETE the Sibelius x folder. If GPO, or Rock and Pop is installed, the Sounds folder will have to be uninstalled temporarily from inside the Sibelius folder and restored after the new SCEM Sibelius is installed.
- In Harddirve > Library > Preferences look for
com.sibelius.sibelius4.plist and DELETE the Sibelius Software folder there.
- In Harddrive > Library > Fonts, DELETE all Helsinki, Opus and Inkpen2 fonts you can find.
- Now load the new Sibelius SCEM in the usual way following all the on-screen instructions. Contact JohnO if there are any problems.
